Thomas Markle Senior, the estranged father of the Duchess of Sussex, is reportedly under investigation after his son allegedly discovered a large collection of child sexual abuse material at his home in the Philippines.
The Sun reports that Thomas Markle Jr, Meghan’s half-brother, found hundreds or potentially thousands of images and videos while sorting through family belongings and alerted police in Cebu.
According to the newspaper, investigators are preparing to seize the alleged material, while the FBI is also expected to investigate after Markle Jr reportedly contacted the agency.
However, Meghan’s half-sister, Samantha Markle, has rejected the allegations and accused her brother of fabricating them to damage their father.
“There is no merit in these disgusting allegations whatsoever and my brother is disgusting for making them up. He wants to destroy our dad. Shame on him,” Samantha told the Daily Mail.
She alleged that her brother made the accusations after their father stopped providing him with money, claiming he had relied on their father financially for years.
The Sun reports that Markle Jr initially alerted the FBI and authorities in Pennsylvania in July, when his father was living there, but became concerned after receiving no follow-up information. He allegedly examined four additional boxes and discovered further material, including books and a hard drive containing images.
Speaking to The Sun, Markle Jr said he felt “horrified” by what he had found and believed he had no choice but to report it to authorities.
“I have supported, cared for him and helped him for years — but that stops now,” he told the newspaper.
“I won’t speak to my father ever again unless I’m called to give evidence against him.”
The allegations emerge after Thomas Markle experienced serious health problems this year, including a stroke in May and a blood clot that led to the amputation of his left leg. He subsequently returned to the United States to receive ongoing medical care.
Meghan and her father have been estranged since her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry. The Duchess, who lived with her father from the age of 11 to 18, reportedly became furious after he arranged paparazzi photographs in the lead-up to the wedding.
Thomas subsequently withdrew from attending the ceremony and walking his daughter down the aisle, saying he had suffered a heart attack and was in hospital. He later described feeling hurt by a phone conversation with Meghan and Harry.
Last December, reports emerged that Meghan had sent her father a handwritten letter while he was recovering from lifesaving surgery in the Philippines. A spokesman for the Duchess confirmed at the time that she had reached out after learning of his hospitalisation.
Thomas subsequently disputed reports that she had contacted him or the hospital, prompting a source close to Meghan to tell The Times that she had made attempts to communicate with him, including by email.
In a statement to the Daily Mail, Thomas appealed for a reconciliation with his daughter, saying he hoped to see Meghan, Prince Harry and his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, before his death.
“I have never stopped loving her. I don’t want to die estranged from Meghan. I want to meet my grandkids. It might be nice to meet her husband too,” he said.
The allegations against Thomas Markle remain allegations, and the reports cited do not establish his guilt.
