“It is a small world,” reckons Graham Lum of North Rocks. “I did my National Service with an Edmund Loong (C8) from Parramatta back in 1959. I assume he is the Edward Loong of Herald fame. Incidentally, Paul Hogan was in my class at the Harris Park Convent school. He was well-behaved at age seven. And for more trivia, Hogan’s sister, Wendy, married John Devitt.” Class clown and school captain are back!
More advanced Ed, this time from Maureen Lysaght of Terrey Hills: “Is the prolific Edward Loong of Column 8 fame the younger brother of the lovely Nancy Loong who attended Parramatta Public Primary School with me in the early 1950s?” There we have it, two items on the one person, both containing the word ‘fame’.
And the world remains small for Ian Rewell of Longueville, too: “I thought you might be interested to know that there are four of us who have been published in Column 8 (thank you!) who were all in the same year at university, the Sydney Uni Faculty of Medicine, final year 1977: Tim Ingall of Scottsdale Arizona, James Wall of Sutton Forest, Malcolm Robilliard of Darling Point and myself.”
“You know that you are getting old when you misunderstand advertising,” laments Jo Rainbow of Orange. “Apparently, ‘Brazilian blowout nanoplasty’ is nothing to do with getting your bikini line in readiness for summer.”
Richard Hale of Paddington thinks “Janice Creenaune’s daughter should end her Mothpocalypse Now party (C8) with the show MothBusters and let bogongs be bogongs.”
Still winging it, George Manojlovic of Mangerton writes: “An entomologist recently informed me that the bogong moth throng navigates by singing the Bogong Moth Migratory Throng Song: ‘I’ve been to Gulgong Cooranbong Ettalong Kurrajong Wollongong Bong Bong Binalong and Grong Grong Bedgerebong Matong Yarramalong and Dandenong so bogongs everywhere flap your wings and sing along!’”
“My first response in reading George Zivkovic’s revelation of Mitchell Moses’ cowardly assault upon a calf (C8) was udder disbelief,” declares Paul Taylor of Winston Hills. “On reflection though, with so much at steak in the modern game, I can only conclude that such actions, previously unherd of, are now stock standard. League officials must be on the horns of a dilemma in deciding the appropriate punishment, but I would have no beef with repeat offenders being banned for heifer and heifer.” Readers are welcome to steer this discussion elsewhere.
