Spoilers below.
After three seasons of navigating religious differences, family expectations, and the occasional breakup, Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah (Adam Brody) have finally made it down the aisle. Just not quite the way anyone expected.
The third season of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This, which premiered on October 22, picks up after Joanne’s decision to convert to Judaism in the season 2 finale. With one of the couple’s biggest disagreements seemingly behind them, the new episodes follow Joanne and Noah as they move in together, prepare for their future, and eventually get engaged. But while their relationship takes several major steps forward, the same can’t be said for everyone around them.
By the time the finale arrives, Joanne and Noah are married, Morgan (Justine Lupe) and Sasha (Timothy Simons) have crossed a line in their friendship, and Esther (Jackie Tohn) is reconsidering what she wants from her estranged husband.
Here’s how the season ends and where the characters wind up.
Do Joanne and Noah get married?
Yes, although the wedding they ultimately have looks nothing like the one they’ve spent much of the season planning.
Noah proposes to Joanne in episode 4, setting off a series of wedding preparations that become increasingly complicated by his mother, Bina (Tovah Feldshuh). As Bina attempts to influence the couple’s decisions, Joanne and Noah find themselves accommodating other people’s expectations instead of focusing on what they want.
Everything comes to a head in the finale, titled “The Plunge,” when the couple travels to Malibu for Joanne’s mikvah, the ritual immersion marking the completion of her conversion to Judaism. Joanne has rented a beach house for the occasion, bringing their families together to celebrate.
But the gathering quickly turns contentious when the complicated history between Morgan, Sasha, and Esther becomes the subject of a family argument. Rather than let the conflict interfere with Joanne’s milestone, she and Noah leave the house with Rabbi Eden (Sarah Silverman) and head to the beach.
After Joanne completes her immersion in the ocean, the couple makes another major decision: They’re getting married right then and there.
“This is supposed to be about us, and we got way off track,” Noah tells Joanne. “Marry me. Right here, right now, just us. I just want to be married to you.”
With Rabbi Eden officiating, a ketubah retrieved from her car, and a stranger they encounter on the beach serving as a witness, Joanne and Noah begin their impromptu wedding ceremony. Although the episode cuts away before the ceremony concludes, the show’s creators have confirmed that the couple is officially married.
Does Joanne officially convert to Judaism?
Yes. Joanne completes her conversion in the season 3 finale, following months of preparation and classes with Rabbi Eden.
Her decision marks a significant development from season 2, when uncertainty over converting became a major source of tension between her and Noah. Although the couple briefly separated, Joanne ultimately decided that Judaism was something she wanted to pursue for herself, rather than simply to preserve their relationship.
In the finale, she explains that her decision is also about the future she hopes to build with Noah, including the possibility of children.
“I’m converting for the family that we’re gonna make, too,” she says. “I want our kids to know that they are a part of something bigger than themselves, or even our family, and that when they feel lost, they can have these traditions to guide them. I didn’t have that, so that’s what I’m choosing, for all of us.”
Joanne then enters the ocean for her mikvah, with Noah and Rabbi Eden watching from the shore. The ceremony brings her conversion journey to a close—and, unexpectedly, becomes the setting for her wedding.
What happens between Morgan and Sasha?
While Joanne and Noah end the season as newlyweds, Morgan and Sasha’s relationship is considerably less settled.
Following Esther’s decision to separate from Sasha at the end of season 2, he spends much of season 3 adjusting to life outside his marriage. Meanwhile, his longtime friendship with Morgan begins to develop into something romantic.
Their relationship changes during a trip to New York in episode 7, when Morgan appears on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. After acknowledging their feelings for each other, Morgan and Sasha sleep together. But Morgan becomes overwhelmed by the possibility of a serious relationship and leaves the following morning without confronting what happened.
She eventually approaches Sasha and admits that her feelings are genuine, but he isn’t ready to take the risk. Still processing the end of his marriage, Sasha tells her that he doesn’t know if he could handle another relationship falling apart.
Their situation becomes even more complicated when Sasha reconnects with Esther. Despite her new relationship with Julian (Steven Weber), Esther ends up sleeping with her estranged husband, leaving the two uncertain about what their reunion means.
The truth about both encounters comes out during the family’s trip to Malibu, when Esther and Morgan discover that they’ve each recently slept with Sasha. The revelation leads to an argument that remains unresolved as the season ends.
In an interview with ELLE ahead of the premiere, Tohn discussed the uncertainty surrounding Esther and Sasha’s relationship, suggesting that their reunion doesn’t necessarily mean they’re getting back together.
“I think Sasha has finally sown his oats, and he’s like, ‘Well, I don’t know what I want,’” she said. “He tells Morgan that, obviously. And then with Esther, I don’t think it is [how he feels] in the beginning of the season, where he’s just devastated.”
She added, “Maybe it is like exes hooking back up, but still it ends very—not cliffhangery, but very unfinished-businessy.”
For now, Sasha’s romantic future remains an open question.
What does the ending mean for season 4?
Although Joanne and Noah’s wedding provides a resolution to the central relationship, the finale leaves several storylines open.
For one, the couple has repeatedly discussed the possibility of having children, including during Joanne’s explanation of why she wants to convert. With their marriage now official, starting a family could be the next chapter of their relationship.
There’s also the question of whether Morgan and Sasha will pursue their feelings for each other, particularly after Esther discovers what happened between them. And despite their separation, Esther and Sasha’s recent hookup suggests that neither has completely moved on from their marriage.
Tohn, for her part, has her own thoughts about where Esther’s story could go.
“I feel like, don’t they have to get back together?” she told ELLE when asked about Esther and Sasha’s future. “But maybe I’ve been indoctrinated by the fans who want that. I don’t know. I think Sasha and Esther get back together, but I have no idea. I’m not in the writers’ room.”
Netflix has not officially renewed Nobody Wants This for a fourth season as of October 2026, so it’s unclear when—or whether—those questions will be answered.
All three seasons of Nobody Wants This are now streaming on Netflix.
