The Lagos State Police Command has detained four officers caught in a viral video harassing a young man in Odogunyan, Ikorodu.
The command disbanded the entire tactical team.
The command's spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying that the officers were identified as personnel attached to the Imota/Immortal Tactical Team in Ikorodu after investigation into the trending video.
According to Adebisi, the officers were summoned to the office of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, on Thursday, where the verdict to detain them was taken.
"The verdict was that these officers would be detained immediately, pending disciplinary proceedings. Also, the entire team will be disbanded," she said.
The command’s mouthpiece further noted that all four officers are in custody and will face disciplinary action, stressing that three of the officers were paraded at the command headquarters in Ikeja, while the fourth officer was also in custody but not presented.
"They are presently here at the headquarters for further inquiries, and I want to assure members of the public that we will take appropriate actions against them," she added.
She said the Commissioner has warned that the command will not tolerate impunity and officers must discharge their duties with integrity and humility.
The police thanked the community for helping to identify the officers quickly and urged residents to continue reporting misconduct.
