Trabzonspor manager Thomas Reis has said he hopes Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu will return soon after the forward was forced off with an injury during the club’s 4-2 away win over Finland’s KuPS Kuopio in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.
Onuachu gave Trabzonspor the lead in the third minute with an assist from Mohamed Salah, but he left the pitch in the 10th minute. The club had not announced the extent of the injury or his recovery time at the time of filing.
It was Trabzonspor’s first match in this season’s competition, and the win was their first European victory since August 1, 2024 and their third in a row overall.
Speaking afterwards, Reis said, “Onuachu was very unlucky. He’s a player who works very well in training. He started the match well and scored a nice goal. It’s a very unfortunate injury.
“I hope he’ll be back soon. Injuries aren’t an excuse for us; we can’t make excuses. Injuries are opportunities for other players. I hope it won’t last too long and he’ll rejoin us soon.”
The goal was Onuachu’s third in 10 games this season. He has struggled in front of goal, but remains a physical presence and a threat for the Turkish club.
