Gangtok, October 16: Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) leader Komal Chamling has questioned the appointment of Dushyant Gautam as the Governor of Sikkim, describing the decision as an insult to the people and women of the state.
In a video statement, Chamling, who serves as vice-president in charge of the SDF’s Chelli Front, raised concerns over women’s safety, justice and accountability, referring to the Ankita Bhandari case.
She also questioned whether the Centre adequately considers the sentiments of Sikkim’s people while making important decisions concerning the state.
President Droupadi Murmu appointed Gautam as the Governor of Sikkim on October 12, 2026, as part of a reshuffle involving governors of six states.
