The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has ordered an immediate investigation into a viral video alleging extortion by police officers during a stop-and-search operation in the Federal Capital Territory.
The video was posted by a social media user identified as VJADEDIM.
This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh.
According to the statement, a receipt posted on the user’s page was dated May 19, 2025, indicating that the incident did not occur under the current administration.
“The alleged incident dates back to May 2025 and did not occur under the present administration. The Command notes with concern the omission of this important timeline in the circulating narrative, which raises questions about the intention behind the publication which seems to be aimed at discrediting the present administration. Nevertheless, the Command remains committed to establishing the facts of the matter,” the statement read.
The command said preliminary investigations revealed that the officer whose identity card was displayed in the video lost it before the date alleged and had documented the loss. The claim is being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, has ordered an immediate investigation into the allegation to establish the facts of the incident and ensure that appropriate action is taken based on the findings,” Adeh said.
The command invited all persons involved in the incident to report at the FCT Police Command Headquarters on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 11 a.m. to provide official statements and relevant information to assist the investigation.
It urged residents to promptly report any incident of police misconduct, with the accurate date, time and location, through its Complaint Response Unit on 08107314192.
