SIRT, which oversees matters involving death, serious injury, sexual assault and intimate partner violence resulting from the actions of police officers, said HRP officers attempted a traffic stop of a woman driving a suspected stolen vehicle in Dartmouth on Sunday morning.
The driver, however, did not stop and continued through the intersection of Yorkshire Avenue Extension and Windmill Road. There, it collided with another vehicle.
SIRT said the man driving needed to be transported to hospital with multiple serious injuries while the driver of the stolen vehicle fled the scene. Police located a suspect the following day.
The investigation remains active.
