Carey Romeo used the rail to his advantage, repelling an early challenge from Thunder Alley and Keigan Madden through a brisk opening quarter of 27.4. Aragonite was on top at the half in 57.4 and would receive a second challenge from Thunder Alley at the three quarters, when he moved to the outside.
Aragonite was too strong and pulled away in the stretch, finishing a length and a half better than a late charging Ranked Contender and Ardon Mofford, who grabbed second, with Pay Line and Roddie Gillis third. Thunder Alley, Alritealritealrite and Don’t Ask Logan rounded out the field of six.
Aragonite recorded his 12th lifetime win for owners Sherry Gillis, Cathy, Colin and Debra Rankin.
Martin Bates led all drivers on the day with three wins, with Mark Pezzrello checking in with a driving double.
Bates opened the program by guiding Saturdaynightfever to a maiden score of 2:08, for winning owners Don For The Day Stable of New Waterford. He then returned to the winner’s circle aboard a pair of his own pacers in Red Rum She Wrote, who picked up her fifth win of the year, in 2:00.3, before leading all the way with four-year-old D A Players Delight, who paced to a 1:59.2 decision over Howmac Powerball and Crosscut.
Pezzarello had back-to-back wins with Dontblvmejustwatch in the Barry Bates Memorial Pace in 1:59.1 for Randy Getto, Wayne Hardy and Susan MacSween, before driving 10-year-old Bobjohnski to a 2:01.4 victory for owner Wanda Mitchelities, the pacers third win of the season.
Other winners on the day included: Chocolate Swirl for Randy Getto and owner Heather Hawkins, taking the Spike and Ray Gillis Memorial in 2:00.2, Wine N Cheddar for owner and driver Ardon Mofford in 2:07, Electraflying for Larry Snow in 2:00.3 for new owner and trainer Danny Campbell, and Rollinread for Harold LeBlanc Jr., and owners Danny and Terri Morrison and Dr. Reg Landry in 2:02.
Fans wagered $17,091 on the day.
Harness racing action continues at Northside Downs on Saturday at 1 p.m., featuring the opening legs of the 2026 Governors Cup Series.
