DB Insurance (005830) is again stepping up efforts to find the next generation of stars in South Korean men's golf.
The insurer said on the 16th that it will serve as official sponsor of the 11th DB Insurance Young Guns Match Play. The tournament runs for five days from Oct. 26 at Rainbow Hills Country Club in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province. DB Insurance is hosting the event, which is organized by the Korea Professional Golfers' Association (KPGA).
The competition is the only elite amateur event in South Korea played in match play format. Players compete in a 36-hole stroke play qualifier over the first two days, after which the top 32 advance to an 18-hole match play tournament held over three days to determine the champion. The format mirrors that of the U.S. Amateur Championship, the most prestigious amateur event in the United States, giving the tournament strong symbolic weight as the showcase for South Korea's top amateurs. The final will be broadcast on tape delay by SBS Golf.
DB Insurance first became involved with the event by sponsoring the 10th DB Insurance Young Guns Match Play Presented by Callaway in 2025. It has continued its sponsorship even after the organizing body changed this year from the Korea Golf Association (KGA) to the KPGA, giving amateur players a chance to experience the professional stage.
Benefits for players have also expanded. The winner, runner-up and third-place finisher will receive entry into the DB Insurance Promy Open, the opening event of next year's KPGA Tour. Scholarships will be awarded to players finishing in the top eight.
Additional incentives — including further KPGA Tour entries, KPGA professional status and exemption from the preliminary round of the professional qualifying tournament — are currently under discussion with the KPGA.
"We hope the players who will lead the future of South Korean men's golf gain valuable experience at this tournament and take a step forward," an official at DB Insurance said. "We will continue to serve as a reliable partner in developing promising players and revitalizing men's golf."
