The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State has accused an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of issuing multiple conflicting reports on its governorship primary, alleging that the documents misrepresented its candidates and were being used in court proceedings against the party.
In a petition dated October 16, 2026, the party drew INEC’s attention to the alleged conduct of Hauwa Buhari Buhari, Head of the Department of Election and Party Monitoring at the commission’s Kano office.
The petition, submitted through its lawyers, Tahir Chambers, was addressed to the INEC chairman through the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano.
The party alleged that several versions of a report on its Kano State primary had been issued and signed by the official, but contained materially inconsistent information.

According to the petition, the reports listed individuals who were neither candidates of the NDC nor participants in its primary election, while excluding those the party described as its duly nominated candidates.
The NDC further alleged that the documents were being circulated and relied upon by different persons in court proceedings against it.
The party also faulted the reports for allegedly failing to state the date on which its Kano State primary election was conducted.
The petition called INEC’s attention to the alleged discrepancies, although the portion made available did not specify all the remedies being sought by the party.
The allegations could not be independently verified from the petition.
INEC and the official named in the complaint had not responded to the allegations in the document provided.
