Former Pakistan captain and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq has been appointed head coach of Sudurpaschim Royals for the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
The franchise confirmed his appointment through its official social media accounts ahead of the tournament, which is scheduled to run from October 26 to November 21.
Expressing his excitement, Misbah said he was looking forward to working with the Royals’ players and experiencing the passion of cricket fans in Nepal.
“I am very excited to be joining the Sudurpaschim Royals as the head coach for the upcoming season,” he said.
He added that he had heard a lot about Nepal’s enthusiasm for cricket and was eager to be part of that environment.
Sudurpaschim Royals have been among the strongest teams in the competition, finishing at the top of the league standings in both previous editions. However, they lost the final on both occasions and are yet to win their first title.
Lumbini Lions will enter the upcoming season as defending champions.
Misbah brings extensive experience in international and franchise cricket. He captained Islamabad United to their maiden Pakistan Super League (PSL) title in 2016 and led Pakistan to 26 victories in 56 Test matches. Under his captaincy, Pakistan also reached the top of the ICC Test rankings in 2016.
During his T20 career, he played 162 matches, scoring 3,491 runs at an average of 33.89, including one century.
Earlier this year, Misbah served as batting coach of Peshawar Zalmi, who won PSL 11 to end a nine-year title drought.
The former Pakistan captain has also served as head coach of the national team and recently stepped down from the national selection committee.
