IMPHAL, Oct 12: The Youth United Voluntary Association (YUVA) has urged the Government to stop the alleged unauthorised construction of a road by a section of Kuki people at Sanasabi Mamang Ching, which falls within the Gwaltabi-Khamenlok Reserved Forest.
Addressing a press conference at Yaingangpokpi Community Hall today, YUVA convenor Thangjam Luwangba claimed that Kuki militants were frequently seen using the road, which was allegedly constructed without authorisation. He further claimed that the Kuki militants have also set up bunkers in the area, expressing apprehension that nearby Meitei settlements could come under attack at any time. Luwangba said youth clubs from the Lamlai area had jointly submitted a memorandum to the Government on September 26, drawing attention to the security situation in Sanasabi.
Saying that the Government has not responded to their memorandum so far, he urged the authorities to stop the road construction and seize the machinery being used for the work. He further called on the Government to penalise those involved in the alleged unauthorised road construction, adding that they would launch a protest if their demands are not addressed.
