Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has formally launched a modern liver cancer clinic to provide integrated treatment through collaboration among more than six medical departments.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr FM Siddiqui inaugurated the clinic today (15 October) at a ceremony held at the university.
The Department of Hepatology organised the event in collaboration with the BMU Hepatology Alumni Association, with department Chairman Professor Dr Shahinul Alam presiding.
A scientific seminar was also held at Shaheed Dr Milton Hall to mark Liver Cancer Awareness Month 2026.
Organised by the Department of Hepatology, the seminar aimed to raise awareness of liver cancer, promote early diagnosis, expand access to modern treatment and ensure coordinated patient care.
Addressing the event, Professor Siddiqui said liver cancer had become a major public health concern.
He said treatment outcomes could improve through effective prevention, regular monitoring of high-risk patients, early detection and timely treatment.
He also highlighted BMU's role in advancing medical education, research and specialised healthcare services.
Describing the clinic as a commendable initiative under the Department of Hepatology, the vice-chancellor said it would help ensure organised and integrated care for patients.
He expressed hope that initiatives like this would improve the standard of liver cancer treatment in Bangladesh and create new research opportunities.
The clinic has been operating on a pilot basis since August. The ceremony marked its formal inauguration.
