ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) has caught five stray dogs following reports of dog attacks in Lima Kedai yesterday.
Kota Iskandar assemblyman Datuk Pandak Ahmad said the operation would continue in a bid to protect residents, particularly children in residential areas.
He said MBIP personnel were called into action after Lima Kedai residents lodged reports that several of them were chased and attacked by stray dogs on the same day.
He said MBIP will conduct sustained enforcement operations and establish a special team to address the stray dog problem.
"Stray dogs pose a potential threat to residents, especially children playing in housing areas," Pandak said.
He cautioned against merely catching dogs in one area and relocating them elsewhere, saying this would not resolve the problem.
Pandak also called on dog owners not to allow their pets to roam freely. He said the local authorities must ensure that owners comply with dog licensing requirements, including measures to protect public safety.
He said any capture operation must follow established standard operating procedures, with public safety and community well-being remaining the priority.
The operation came a day after a 7-year-old boy was attacked by a pack of eight stray dogs at a playground near a flat in Lima Kedai, Gelang Patah. The boy sustained severe injuries to his face.
An 18-year-old youth narrowly escaped a similar attack by the same pack at the location earlier that morning.
