A man in his 20s accused of killing a stranger in his 70s stole the victim's credit card immediately after the crime and charged 5 million won ($3,500) to it, according to investigators.
Closed-circuit television footage from near the scene captured the suspect, identified only as A, walking out with the victim's mobile phone, credit cards and other belongings, police said on the 13th. A is accused of killing a man in his 70s, identified only as B, at a house in Seoul's Seongbuk District on the 3rd and stealing his phone and cards. A court issued an arrest warrant for A on the 7th, citing the risk of evidence destruction and flight.
During questioning, A told police that he had bumped shoulders with B while walking, that an argument broke out, and that he followed B to his home to protest before killing him in an unplanned confrontation, according to investigators. But police believe the CCTV footage shows no such collision between the two men. A is reported to have charged about 5 million won to B's stolen card after the killing.
Police are weighing whether to upgrade the charge against A from murder to robbery-murder before referring the case to prosecutors. Results of a psychopathy assessment conducted on A will be released after the case is referred.
