CYBERJAYA: Civil servants who fail to comply with the directive to stop using Waze could face disciplinary action.
National Security Council director-general Datuk Raja Nushirwan Zainal Abidin said the directive, issued by the Chief Secretary to the
Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, took effect immediately after it was announced yesterday.
"The directive applies with immediate effect.
"As for implementation, there are ways to go about it, but generally, we leave it to each individual's discretion.
"But any violation of a directive issued by the Chief Secretary to the Government carries implications in terms of disciplinary action," he told a press conference here today.
Meanwhile, National Cyber Security Agency chief executive officer Dr Megat Zuhairy Megat Tajuddin said although the restriction applied only to civil servants for official purposes, its implications went beyond official use.
"Secondly, although the restriction is imposed only on civil servants for official purposes, the implications are not limited to official use.
"Our movements and the data involved can be used even outside official duties, including that of Malaysians as a whole," he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday directed civil servants to stop using Waze and appealed to the public to do the same, citing concerns that sensitive government information and personal data could be exploited by Israel.
