It’s hard to believe after a summer in which they spent £380 million, but Tottenham Hotspur looks to be headed towards another relegation scrap this season.
Spurs are the only team in the Premier League without a win, but they are the last club in the 92-team Football League (Premier League, Championship, League One, and League Two) without one.
Despite all of that, Tottenham is a whopping -200 favorite over Coventry City on Monday afternoon. Go figure.
Coventry City vs. Tottenham odds, pick
Spurs have been a mess for two-plus seasons, but it is shocking that they are in this predicament. Manager Roberto De Zerbi was given nearly £500 million to bolster the squad this summer, and he brought in several superstars like Sandro Tonali, Savinho, and Mateus Fernandes, all of whom cost over £100 million.
Tottenham’s transfers were widely lauded as the best in the Premier League this summer, and there were plenty of punters picking Spurs to return to the Champions League after finishing 17th in consecutive campaigns.
Turns out that whatever problems have been plaguing Spurs for the past two years can’t be fixed by lobbing money at them. Tottenham have been dreadful through their six matches, scoring just three goals and getting shut out in four of their first six contests.
Coventry City also endured a tough opening stretch, but Frank Lampard’s side have turned things around after going 0-0-4 (W-D-L) and being outscored 10-0 in their first four Premier League matches in 25 years. The Sky Blues have won their past two matches, and they came out of the international break with a thumping 4-1 win at home over Newcastle.

There are plenty of issues for Lampard to sort out as the season goes on, but Coventry is at least on stable ground after a nightmare start. The same can’t be said for Spurs.
Tottenham is going to be under all sorts of pressure at home on Monday, and their lack of offensive output (3 goals and 6.6 expected goals) through six matches makes Spurs ill-equipped to handle what could be a toxic atmosphere.
Look for Coventry to sit deep and frustrate Tottenham.
