Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M. V. Govindan has said that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) letter involving Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan and others is a false case lacking any evidence. Speaking after inaugurating the expanded Kollam district committee meeting, he asserted that such baseless allegations will not hold up legally.
He alleged that the UDF government, led by Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan, is aligning with the ED, which is handling the case with clear political motives. Pointing out ED’s track record across the country, Mr. Govindan noted that out of around 2,000 cases registered by the agency so far, only 54 have made it to court. Regarding the High Court single bench order to register an FIR, Mr. Govindan clarified that the State government is the entity to file an appeal, and further actions will be taken after thoroughly examining all aspects of the division bench ruling.
In his address, the CPI(M) State secretary also defended KIIFB, stating that absurd figures cannot obscure the development milestones Keralam achieved through it. “KIIFB has grown capable of managing development projects worth ₹1 lakh crore, setting a model for the entire country. Keralam cannot rely solely on the Budget allocations granted by the Centre, and KIIFB provided the necessary funding for several visionary projects,” he said, adding that any attempts to dismantle KIIFB would derail Keralam’s future development.
