Frederik Andersen finally got his ring.
The 38-year-old goaltender visited old teammates after the Carolina Hurricanes practiced at Rogers Place on Wednesday morning. The Hurricanes will take to the ice against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night, but the injured Andersen will be watching from the sidelines.
It’s been a whirlwind for Andersen since winning the Stanley Cup with Carolina last season. Not long after the initial celebration, the Danish netminder inked a one-year deal with the Oilers. Andersen spent his day with the Stanley Cup at Legoland in Denmark, but was not present for the Hurricanes’ banner-raising night or any subsequent in-season celebration.
Instead, he’s been rehabbing with the Oilers and helping out young goaltender Devon Levi find his game in the Edmonton net. That absence has caused a delay in getting his Stanley Cup championship ring, which he finally received from Carolina GM Eric Tulsky in the Rogers Place visitors’ dressing room.
Before being presented with the ring, head coach Rob Brind’Amour had some touching words to say about Andersen.
“This man, we know who he is, no introduction; he’s always gonna be part of the family,” Brind’Amour addressed his team with Andersen. “You guys are gonna be bonded with him forever, even though he’s on the other group right now. He’s a Hurricane, and I love this guy.”
Forever family ❤️

Andersen had a rocky regular season with the Hurricanes last year, but turned it on in the playoffs. The veteran goaltender was lights out, and likely would have played every playoff game if he hadn’t suffered an injury in the Stanley Cup Final.
Brandon Bussi eventually came in to finish the job, leaving Andersen with an incredible 14-5 record and an exceptional +6.0 GSAx.
“You’ve been a rock back there for us; you were incredible in the playoffs,” Tulsky said. “Really honoured to be able to give you this ring. Congratulations.”Wish I could have been there with you guys when you saw it, but thanks, thanks for doing this.”
The ring was initially revealed in September, but Andersen says he’s been trying to avoid seeing it until he got one of his own.
“Thanks, boys. Been looking forward to seeing this. Been trying not to look online, but I’ve been looking forward to seeing this for a while,” Andersen addressed his old team.

The hope is that Andersen can get healthy and eventually help the Oilers get a Stanley Cup of their own this spring.
