The Mississippi State Bulldogs have a huge SEC matchup next weekend against No. 22 LSU, and they may have to play that game without their best player.
Quarterback Kamario Taylor has taken the NCAA by storm this season. The sophomore signal-caller has thrown for 1,450 yards, 17 touchdowns, and four interceptions while rushing for 159 yards and another score across five games.
But Taylor has been playing through a foot injury that’s got his status for the Bulldogs’ matchup with the Tigers in doubt.
“Sources: Mississippi State quarterback Kamario Taylor’s status for the game at LSU on Saturday is in flux,” ESPN’s Pete Thamel wrote. “A decision on whether he’ll play will be made later in the week. He’s dealing with a foot injury from earlier this year that clearly impacted him against Alabama on Oct. 3.”
Mississippi State head coach Jeff Lebby didn’t provide any more clarity on where Taylor stands in his recovery.
"Right now, the focus is getting (Taylor) ready to play and then having the ability to continue to create the depth in the room," Lebby said.

...
Taylor was clearly affected by his lingering foot injury in Mississippi State’s 56-23 loss to Alabama two weeks ago.
In that game, Taylor completed a season-low 55.9% of his passes and he was picked off twice. He was also sacked five times, and he finished with -26 yards rushing. It was the first time this season he had negative rushing yards as his mobility was clearly hindered.
If Taylor can’t go, Mississippi State has two capable backups ready to step in, though going up against LSU’s defense is a daunting task for either of them.
"Billy (Puckett) and AJ (Swann) obviously are the two guys that have been competing since Day 1 in fall camp and really last spring,” Lebby added. “So, those guys obviously have the ability to get work if (Taylor) wasn't ready to roll."
