Amritprabha Mahanta, one of the accused in the mysterious death case of singer Zubeen Garg, appeared before the court on Wednesday after being released from Haflong Sub-Jail following a bail order from the Gauhati High Court.
However, her release from prison does not bring an end to the legal proceedings against her. She continues to face trial in the case and is required to comply with the conditions imposed by the court while on bail.
The court has directed Mahanta to appear in person on every hearing date before the fast-track court. Her bail does not mean that she has been cleared of the allegations against her, and the legal proceedings will continue.
Meanwhile, her appearance in court on Wednesday drew attention after journalists attempted to seek her reaction and comments on the case.
As reporters approached Mahanta to record her response, advocate Anand Bhuyan, who accompanied her, intervened and attempted to prevent journalists from filming and asking questions.
"No, don't do this," he said, while asking them to move away. He also attempted to move the media personnel away from the camera's view, obstructing their efforts to record visuals and obtain a response from Mahanta.
The advocate's conduct reportedly triggered strong resentment among journalists present at the court premises, who were attempting to discharge their professional duties.
Zubeen Garg's death has remained a major subject of public discussion in the state, with people closely following developments in the investigation and court proceedings.
Further developments in the case are awaited as the judicial proceedings continue.
