Ghana and Burkina Faso are exploring ways to deepen cooperation in petroleum transportation and supply following a meeting between the Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, and a delegation from Burkina Faso’s national petroleum company, SONABHY.
The delegation, led by the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of Société Nationale Burkinabè d’Hydrocarbures, Forogo Patrice, paid a courtesy call on the minister to discuss ways to strengthen the existing partnership between the two countries.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Dr Jinapor said the discussions focused on improving collaboration in petroleum transportation and supply, deepening regional energy cooperation and advancing shared priorities.
The engagement comes as Ghana’s role in facilitating petroleum transit to Burkina Faso continues to grow. Dr Jinapor disclosed that approximately 40% of Burkina Faso’s petroleum products are currently transported through Ghana, compared with 15% two years ago.
The SONABHY delegation expressed appreciation to the Government of Ghana for its continued support in facilitating the procurement and transit of petroleum products through the country.
It also called for deeper collaboration to strengthen the partnership, reflecting the importance of reliable transportation arrangements to the petroleum supply chain between the two neighbouring countries.
Dr Jinapor said the meeting provided an opportunity to explore areas where both countries could work more closely together for their mutual benefit.
