Entry fees at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) in Visakhapatnam will increase from November 1, with the adult ticket price rising from ₹70 to ₹100 and the child ticket from ₹30 to ₹50.
The revised tariffs were approved at the 16th Governing Board meeting of the Zoo Authority of Andhra Pradesh (ZAAP) on August 14, according to an official release by zoo curator Ravindra Dhama on Friday.
The fee for four-wheelers entering the zoo premises will also increase from ₹750 to ₹1,000. The authorities said the higher tariff was intended to regulate vehicle movement within the premises and reduce noise and air pollution, helping provide a healthier environment for animals.
The release said ticket rates had not been revised during the previous three financial years. It cited rising expenditure on staff wages, animal feed and veterinary care as reasons for the increase. It also said the zoo relied predominantly on gate revenue to meet its operational and maintenance costs, as government assistance was insufficient to cover recurring expenses.
