Dan Singer, a former Welsh rugby player who went on to build a career in London, has died aged 48 after collapsing during a charity cycling challenge. Singer died on 1 October 2026 while participating in a fundraiser organised in support of his former teammate Crawford Henderson, who is battling a brain tumour.
The challenge, known as RFC500, brought together former teammates for a planned 500-mile journey from Scotland to Rosslyn Park in London. The aim was to raise funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and The Brain Tumour Charity through the Lewis Moody Foundation.
Singer’s death prompted tributes from the clubs where he played and others connected to the rugby community.
Dan Singer remembered by Porthcawl RFC and Rosslyn Park
Singer joined Porthcawl RFC as a youth player in the mid-1990s. He later represented the club at senior level while studying at university, then moved to London, where he worked as a trader at J.P. Morgan and played for Rosslyn Park.
Porthcawl RFC announced his death in a statement shared on social media.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that our former player and friend, Dan Singer, tragically passed away recently while taking part in the RFC500 charity cycle ride,” the club said.
It added that Singer had stayed connected with the club and continued visiting when he returned to the area.
Rosslyn Park also paid tribute, describing him as a “much-loved friend”. The club extended its condolences to his wife, Michelle, their family and the cyclists who had been riding alongside him.

RFC500 fundraising continues after cycling tragedy
The organisers called off the remainder of the planned challenge following Singer’s death. The group subsequently completed a shorter ride to Rosslyn Park in his memory.
The fundraiser had collected more than £95,000 (approximately R2.08 million) by the time WalesOnline reported on the story on 15 October 2026. Donations continued to be made in Singer’s honour.
The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast, hosted by James Haskell, Mike Tindall and Alex Payne, also sent condolences to Singer’s family, friends and former clubs.
Singer was a talented all-round sportsman at Wycliffe College in Gloucestershire, where he captained the rugby, sevens rugby, hockey, and cricket teams.
His death has brought together former teammates and friends in remembrance, while the money raised through RFC500 continues to support the charities the ride was intended to benefit.
