Nigeria international Akor Adams has ended Venezia’s poor start to the season with a second half winner in their 1-0 victory over Napoli.
The Saturday afternoon league fixture in Venice ended on a shock note, and Adams’ goal delivered the knockout punch against the Partenopei that had not lost an away league match since last month.
Adams scored the winner four minutes into the second half of the encounter, nudging his way first to a long ball forward before sending a shot that deflected beyond the goalkeeper and into the net.
The former Sevilla forward’s strike was his second league goal of the season. The 25 years old joined his teammates afterwards to soak up Napoli for a first clean sheet of the season.
Venezia’s win is a first against Napoli in any competition for 23 years since a 2-1 win in Serie B in 2003. It is also a first Serie A win over the former champions in the 21st century.
Venezia remain rooted to the bottom of the Serie A table with three points from seven matches place so far this season.
