U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed a desire to visit Uzbekistan, and possible dates for a trip next year are being considered, according to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Rubio noted developments in bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and the United States, emphasizing cooperation based on shared opportunities.
"There are many positive developments taking place in our bilateral relations. Most importantly, our relationship is evolving based on opportunities rather than problems or conflicts," Rubio said.
The U.S. Secretary of State also highlighted Uzbekistan's rapid economic growth and opportunities being created to improve the well-being of its population. He noted that American companies are interested in these developments and that the United States intends to expand cooperation in this direction.
"American companies are also showing interest in this. We aim to work precisely in this direction. I believe this will bring our peoples and countries even closer together, as there is no stronger foundation for strengthening relations than mutual prosperity and shared economic interests. We are committed to working along these lines," Rubio stated.
Marco Rubio arrived in Samarkand on October 18, accompanied by more than 200 business representatives, to participate in the C5+1 summit. He was welcomed by Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of Uzbekistan's Presidential Administration, and Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov.
During his visit, Rubio is scheduled to meet with representatives of the five Central Asian countries. Following his visit to Samarkand, the U.S. Secretary of State will travel to Mumbai and Jamnagar in India.
