The Kano State Police Command has recovered three stolen vehicles, including a Toyota Corolla, a minibus and a Mitsubishi Canter truck, following separate operations that led to the arrest of four suspects.
The recoveries, made between October 8 and 9, 2026, followed intelligence-led operations by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Ungogo Police Division, according to a statement issued on Sunday by Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police spokesperson.
In one of the cases, police recovered a 2010 Toyota Corolla belonging to Aminu Yahaya of Darmanawa Quarters, Kano, after it was allegedly diverted by a man entrusted with selling the vehicle on his behalf.
Yahaya had reportedly handed the ash-coloured car to Sale Usman, also known as Dambu, of Fagge Quarters, on September 22, with instructions to sell it and remit the proceeds.
However, the vehicle was allegedly taken to an undisclosed location without the owner’s consent.
Following a complaint lodged on October 8, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad traced and recovered the car in Katsina, where a man identified as Sulaiman claimed to have bought it for N7.5 million.
Police said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the transaction and determine possible criminal liability.
In a separate operation, two suspected vehicle thieves were arrested following the recovery of a Toyota Hiace minibus stolen from Singer Market in Kano.
The vehicle, a white minibus with registration number NSR 261 XB, was reported missing by its owner, Isah Abdullahi of Bachirava Quarters, Ungogo Local Government Area, on October 8.
Abdullahi told the police that the vehicle had been stolen by unidentified persons on October 5 from where it was parked at the market.
Using technical support to track the vehicle, police operatives located it in a remote area of Mariri Magadawa, in Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Two suspects, Abubakar Umar, 23, of Nasarawa GRA, and Mustapha Zubairu Abdullahi, 25, of Layin Makabarta, Tarauni Local Government Area, were arrested in connection with the incident. The minibus was recovered in their possession.
The third operation led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man, Abdullahi Adamu, from Potiskum, Yobe State, over the alleged theft of a Mitsubishi Canter truck.
Police said a surveillance team attached to Ungogo Police Division intercepted Adamu on October 8 after receiving credible intelligence that the truck had been taken to a garage in Kadawa Quarters for repainting.
The vehicle, with registration number BLF 365 XA, has a blue cabin and white body.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to stealing the truck from Dan Baba Garage in Potiskum, Yobe State, according to the police statement.
The command said it had contacted the Yobe State Police Command to facilitate further investigation and establish contact with the vehicle’s rightful owner.
The four suspects are expected to be charged to court after investigations are concluded, while police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspected accomplices who remain at large.
Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, commended officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and Ungogo Police Division for their prompt response, professionalism and use of technical intelligence in recovering the vehicles.
Bakori also urged vehicle owners to exercise caution when entrusting their property to other people, secure their vehicles with additional security devices and remain vigilant about where they park them.
He further advised members of the public to provide credible information to the police and report suspicious attempts to sell vehicles at unusually low prices.
The command urged residents to report emergencies and suspicious activities through its dedicated telephone lines: 08032419754, 08123821575 and 09029292926.
