TEZPUR, Oct 12: The Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) authorities have expelled seven students from its Old Boys’ Hostel for three months following complaints of alleged ragging and pending an inquiry by the college authorities.
While contacted, principal cum chief superintendent, TMCH, Prof Gunajit Das said that the action was taken after complaints involving students from the 2022 and 2023 batches were lodged. The institution also received a complaint from the anti-ragging cell in New Delhi, prompting the college authorities to initiate immediate measures through its anti-ragging committee and anti-ragging squad.
As part of the inquiry, the college collected anonymous feedback from students and conducted a detailed examination of the complaints. The written feedback reportedly identified eight students, while additional concerns were raised by the first-year female students regarding the conduct of some students. The order also mentioned a separate complaint involving a student who did not reside in the hostel, along with another alleged ragging-like incident detected by the principal himself.
Following consideration of the complaints and recommendations of the anti-ragging committee, the college administration ordered immediate expulsion of seven students from the Old Boys’ Hostel for a period of three months.
In addition to the hostel expulsions, the authorities imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on another student and Rs 10,000 on an intern. The individuals have been directed to pay their respective fines immediately, besides issuing a strong warning to the students directing them to refrain from any form of ragging or similar activities and to strictly follow the anti-ragging regulations.
