Figma has announced a series of product updates aimed at bringing design, code and AI agents together on a single collaborative platform, as the company looks to simplify product development workflows for designers, developers and product managers.
Announced at Config India in Bengaluru, the updates introduce code layers, Figma Specs, centralised design system management and deeper integration with Payload, an open-source backend framework and content management system (CMS).
The company has also expanded its Model Context Protocol (MCP) ecosystem with 20 new partners, including Sarvam AI, Grok Bot and Open Code. The integrations will enable teams to connect coding agents and other AI tools with Figma’s design environment.
“Figma was the first to introduce the multiplayer canvas for teams to design together. The next evolution is a full-stack creative canvas where teams and agents can build together, from idea to ship, in a visual-first way,” said Dylan Field, co-founder and CEO of Figma.
The announcements come a week after Figma made its AI agent generally available. The company said the new features are designed to help product teams collaborate more effectively as AI tools make software development faster and more accessible.
One of the key announcements is code layers, which allow teams to build, explore, edit and compare code-backed prototypes directly on Figma’s Design canvas. The feature is being launched in open beta.
Users can create code layers by prompting the Figma agent, importing work from GitHub repositories or connecting coding agents through MCP. Teams can also convert existing Figma designs into interactive prototypes to evaluate functionality, accessibility and design consistency before development progresses.
The expanded MCP ecosystem will connect Figma with additional tools, including Sarvam AI, an Indian AI company. The move is aimed at enabling teams to integrate their preferred AI tools and coding agents into their existing design workflows.
Figma has also introduced Figma Specs, a native Markdown editor that enables teams to document product requirements, implementation details and design intent in a shared workspace.
Specs can be created as standalone files or alongside existing work on the canvas. The feature also allows users to reference canvas content and embed FigJam diagrams, code layers and designs, helping teams maintain a common understanding of product requirements.
The company said the tool is intended to give AI agents clearer instructions while helping designers, developers and product managers align on what needs to be built.
Another update introduces a centralised space for managing design systems, bringing design libraries, code libraries and guidelines together. The feature is intended to help teams maintain consistency across brands and products while providing AI agents with a unified source of context.
Figma is also deepening its integration with Payload, which joined the company last year. Payload provides backend infrastructure, content management, media management and APIs for websites and applications.
According to Figma, Payload downloads have grown sixfold over the past 12 months. With the new integration, teams can use Figma Make to build applications and connect them to Payload. This will allow designers to work with real content, marketers to manage it through an administrative panel, and developers to customise applications using Payload’s open-source framework.
Figma said the newly announced product updates will roll out to users over the coming weeks, with availability varying by feature.
The announcements come as Figma expands its presence in India. The company said India is its second-largest active user market globally, with more than 40% of companies in the BSE 100 using its platform as of the second quarter of 2026.
Companies using Figma in India include Airtel, CARS24, Groww, Juspay, Myntra, Swiggy, TCS and Zomato.
Globally, approximately two-thirds of Figma’s monthly active users identified as something other than designers as of Q2 2026, reflecting its adoption across a wider range of roles. Around 85% of its monthly active users were located outside the US, while approximately half of its revenue came from international markets.
Config India, Figma’s flagship conference for product builders, is being held at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre in Bengaluru. The company said more than 30,000 people had registered to attend the event in person and virtually.
