Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle is leaving for Bangkok on Tuesday to attend the annual meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, with more than 16 bilateral and multilateral engagements on his schedule.
Wagle is due to depart from Tribhuvan International Airport at 1:30 pm on a Thai Airways flight, according to the Finance Ministry.
The meetings will bring together finance ministers and senior officials from around the world to discuss the global economic outlook, development financing, poverty reduction and financial stability. They also provide a forum for governments to engage with international financial institutions and development partners on economic policy, investment and financing.
Wagle’s engagements are expected to focus on Nepal’s economic priorities and its cooperation with international financial institutions, including development financing, post-disaster reconstruction and economic recovery.
Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyaya, Amrit Lamsal, joint secretary and chief of the International Economic Relations Division, and the minister’s private officer Madhav Bhandari and officer Gajendra Bhattarai will accompany him. Wagle is scheduled to return to Nepal on October 21.
The meetings come as Nepal seeks financing for reconstruction and recovery alongside support for infrastructure development, investment and macroeconomic stability.
