By Zoila Palma: The Belize Tax Service Department, under the Ministry of Finance, is hosting the 3rd Compliance Risk Management (CRM) Community of Practice Workshop from October 19 to 22, 2026, at the Best Western Belize Biltmore Plaza in Belize City. The workshop aims to strengthen tax compliance and revenue management across the Caribbean.
The four-day event brings together tax administration representatives from Belize, Barbados, Curaçao, Guyana, Grenada and Jamaica, with technical support from the International Monetary Fund’s Fiscal Affairs Department and the Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre. Participants are discussing ways to improve taxpayer compliance, protect government revenues and deliver more effective services while making better use of limited resources.
During the workshop, participating countries are sharing their experiences in applying Compliance Risk Management, including initiatives, results, challenges and lessons learned. Director General of the Belize Tax Service, Michelle Longsworth, emphasized the importance of using information to improve compliance. “The real value comes from how we use information – how we turn data into intelligence, intelligence into action, and action into measurable improvements in taxpayer compliance,” she stated.
The workshop comes as Belize continues efforts to modernize its tax administration, strengthen data-driven strategies and encourage voluntary compliance.
