Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has aimed at some of Kenya's most popular content creators, calling them out for what he believes is a deliberate effort to promote the government's agenda while turning a blind eye to the country's deeper problems.

In a video that has stirred debate online, Salasya said he had been watching a troubling pattern among influential social media personalities who appeared to be "corrupted" into crafting a certain narrative favourable to those in power.
What did Salasya tell Butita and Mwakideu?
"It's good to have your democratic right, but don't do it based on how you have been paid," he said.
"We have some social media influencers who seem like they have been corrupted to create a certain narrative."
The MP named Eddie Butita, Alex Mwakideu, Oga Obinna and YY directly, describing them as "the new sheriffs in the market" and urging them to go beyond championing affordable housing and road projects when speaking to their audiences.
Salasya argued that fixating on affordable housing alone does not tell the full story.
He pointed to ailing public hospitals and a struggling education system as examples of the issues he felt were being conveniently ignored.
He also referenced the potential economic damage from the Ebola situation as something influencers with large platforms should be addressing.
"We have real issues affecting the country. It is about social welfare and healthcare. Public hospitals have no money. We must love our country," he said.
Rather than simply criticising them, Salasya extended a direct challenge in the video's caption, daring the influencers to contest for seats under the ruling UDA party if they genuinely believed in what they were promoting.
"To my brothers @alex_mwakideu @ogaobinna @eddiebutita YY etc the new sheriffs in the market I challenge you to vie in your various constituencies, counties and wards on UDA ticket at least you win to promote affordable housing, and Rironi Road," he wrote.
The remarks struck a chord with a section of Kenyans online, with many expressing rare agreement with the MP.

What did Salasya say about Gachagua's ranch?
In other news, Salasya expressed admiration for Rigathi Gachagua’s expansive Texas ranch during a visit captured in a video shared online.
Dressed in cowboy attire, the lawmaker marvelled at the property’s horses, cattle and rural surroundings.
Salasya said he hopes to purchase American land someday as a retirement destination after serving Kenyans.
