Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was placed under preventive arrest by the Delhi Police on Friday, a day after he was detained ahead of the party’s planned ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest at Connaught Place. Meanwhile, All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora was released after the completion of formalities under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act.
According to the report, action was initiated against Dipke under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). He is scheduled to be produced before a Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) on October 17.
The report said Dipke had been served two notices directing him not to visit Central Park in Connaught Place for the planned protest. However, he allegedly failed to comply with the directions, prompting further action.
The CJP founder had also furnished a bond of Rs 50,000 and was directed not to disturb public peace for one year, police said.
Neha Bora Questions Police Action After Release
Following her release, Bora criticised the authorities over the detention of protesters and questioned the legality of keeping people in custody overnight.
Speaking to reporters, she alleged that ordinary citizens were being treated like criminals and claimed that protesters were frequently detained during the day or evening and released only the following morning or later.
“Law and order are being flouted in every possible way,” Bora said, questioning the legal basis for keeping detainees in custody throughout the night.
She also alleged that the police had prevented her from consulting her lawyers for several hours after her detention.
According to Bora, police officials sought her name, address and other personal details but initially did not allow her to speak to a legal adviser. She claimed that her lawyers spent five to six hours trying to reach her before they were finally permitted to meet her.
Bora further argued that women should be released after sunset under the law and questioned why the authorities were not following the provisions she referred to.
CJP Demands CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Impeachment
Bora reiterated the party’s demand for the impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
She rejected allegations of chaos and disorder linked to the protests, arguing that restrictions and blocked routes in central Delhi were causing difficulties for the public.
“Impeach Gyanesh Kumar and halt SIR,” she said, calling for steps to protect citizens’ voting rights.
The CJP has been organising protests against the SIR exercise and demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner.
Meanwhile, the party alleged that Dipke had been taken to an undisclosed location and that his lawyers had not been allowed to speak to him.
In a post on X, the CJP claimed that more than 10 hours had passed since Dipke was picked up, but his family members, lawyers and party colleagues had not received information about his whereabouts.
The latest development follows the detention of other CJP members, including Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. The two were detained after allegedly entering Jantar Mantar, which had been de-notified as a protest venue.
The party’s planned ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ agitation at Connaught Place was part of its continuing campaign against the SIR exercise and its demand for the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.
