The City of Mandurah’s festivals and events strategy has won a national award for strategic thinking at the National Economic Development Awards for Excellence.
The awards, which were presented last week in Hobart, recognise outstanding leadership and contribution to the economic development profession, including driving innovation, change and positive outcomes for communities.

Each year, Mandurah’s events program generates an estimated $43 million in economic impact and supports more than 2.1 million visitors annually, playing an important role in the city’s about $620 million visitor economy.
Its 2026-2030 strategy sets out how council can build on its past success, using events to attract visitors and investment, support local businesses and jobs, and continue building Mandurah’s reputation.
It was adopted by the council in July.
Mayor Amber Kearns said it was amazing to see Mandurah recognised for the way it thinks about future events for the city.

“Events bring people together, give us a chance to celebrate what makes Mandurah special and invite more people to experience our city,” Ms Kearns said.
“They also create opportunities for local businesses, support jobs, encourage visitors to stay and spend locally, and help build a strong future for our community.”
Ms Kearns said the city’s new strategy was building on what it already did well and making the most of the opportunities that events can bring to Mandurah, both now and into the future.
“Thank you to everyone who helps make events in Mandurah what they are, from the organisers and volunteers to our local businesses, community groups, and event partners,” she said.
“You all play an important part in bringing people together and showcasing our city.”
