ⓘ Nintendo, EA
Players can leave cartridges behind after installing the It Takes Two Switch 2 upgrade. Borrowing a physical copy is also an affordable way to embark on the co-op adventure. The update for Nintendo’s latest handheld boasts improved resolution and frame rates.
The It Takes Two Switch 2 upgrade is free for customers who own the title on the original handheld. However, players have realized that after downloading it, they no longer need the cartridge. Unless EA removes the perk with a patch, one physical copy can authorize multiple installations.
Downloading the free update
Other recent Switch 2 games, like The Witcher 3 Remastered, support the same money-saving workaround. Fans realized the benefit also applied to the co-op platformer when troubleshooting the upgrade. Redditor Artoo2814 helped posters struggling to complete the process.
First, update It Takes Two for the OG Switch to version 1.04. Then, gamers should choose Play Online and connect to EA’s servers. On the Nintendo Account information screen, select Cancel, which produces error code 401-2710. Finally, press the Y button and specify the correct account to unlock the free eShop download.
Once the It Takes Two Switch 2 upgrade is running, the digital installation boots without the cartridge. As a result, the game is now a popular target at libraries or stores that sell cheaper used copies. Of course, it may be wise to hold onto the physical media in case the publisher introduces checks.
A very shareable game
Even before the new discovery, the title offered ways to economize. Friend’s Pass allows owners to invite a partner for a full playthrough at no additional expense. On the latest Nintendo console, GameShare lets players on the last-gen Switch join at no cost. Finally, couch co-op provides collaborative split-screen action.
Standalone physical and digital copies were available on the It Takes Two Switch 2 release date. For $39.99, some current-gen benefits include 1080p resolution in docked mode. Frame rates have doubled to 60 fps, and developers also implemented enhanced lighting and shadows.
Unfortunately, the updates come at the cost of storage. After ditching the cartridge, the files consume about 40 GB of increasingly valuable space.
