The signing was attended by the Minister’s accompanying delegation and several officials from the organization.
The MoU aims to establish an institutional framework for strategic cooperation between the two parties, supporting Libya’s national priorities in the fields of agriculture, livestock, and food security, in alignment with the IOFS 2031 vision.
The meeting addressed ways to enhance technical cooperation and develop partnerships in the agricultural and livestock sectors. The Director-General expressed the organization’s readiness to support the Ministry in implementing joint projects and programmes, as well as in exchanging expertise to strengthen Libya’s food security system.
For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to expanding cooperation with the organization, leveraging its technical expertise to develop agricultural and livestock production, support agricultural policies, and implement priority development programs and projects.
The discussions covered several areas of mutual interest, most notably plant and animal genetic resources, the development of value chains for grains and livestock, the advancement of fisheries, and support for agriculture and food security initiatives.
The two sides also agreed to establish a joint working group to develop an action plan for the 2026–2028 period. This plan will outline cooperation priorities and proposed projects, as well as complete the necessary technical studies, paving the way for implementation according to agreed-upon timelines.
The Ministry said the memorandum falls within the framework of its efforts to strengthen cooperation with regional and international organizations and to develop strategic partnerships that support sustainable agricultural development. Such initiatives aim to enhance the efficiency of the agricultural and livestock sector and bolster food security in Libya, it added.
