Russia’s Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Energy held a session as part of Russian Energy Week, where participants discussed prospects for regional energy cooperation and strengthening stability in the South Caucasus.
The Russian Foreign Ministry and Ministry of Energy held a thematic session titled “The ‘3+3’ Platform: Energy Cooperation as a Pillar of Peace and Security in the South Caucasus” as part of the 2026 Russian Energy Week International Forum.
The event was supported by the Roscongress Foundation and the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The high-level session aimed to develop sectoral dialogue among the countries participating in the “3+3” regional cooperation platform: Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia, alongside Russia, Iran and Türkiye. Discussions covered areas of mutual interest to the countries of the region. Participants included senior representatives of relevant ministries and government agencies, as well as major energy companies.
The first meeting of the “3+3” platform took place in Moscow in December 2021. Subsequent meetings of foreign ministers were held in Tehran in 2023 and Istanbul in 2024. In 2026, an expert dialogue among the six countries was launched on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
Preparations are currently underway for the next meeting of foreign ministers, which is expected to take place in Baku or Yerevan.
The Russian Energy Week session complemented official contacts within the platform. Participants explored opportunities for the countries of the South Caucasus and their immediate neighbors to pool their efforts to promote sustainable development and prosperity across the region.
