AfroFuture Accra is the December festival that US tour groups already build Ghana trips around, yet its 2026 dates are not official. Past editions ran on 28 and 29 December, which fall on Monday and Tuesday this year.
The organiser’s own website, afrofuture.com, lists no 2026 Accra date, venue or ticket sale on Tuesday 20 October. Treat every December date below as a plan to confirm, not a booking.
What AfroFuture Is and Why It Matters
AfroFuture is a festival of African music, fashion, food and art run by Culture Management Group, an Africa-focused media and event company. The event was known as Afrochella before the change of name, and Music In Africa dates its first edition to December 2017.
Abdul Karim Abdullah is the chief executive and a co-founder, the Ghana News Agency reports. He said the 2025 theme honoured “the food, music, fashion, art, and traditions that connect Africans and the diaspora”.
The diaspora means people of African descent who live outside Africa, and many US visitors come for that reason. That is why tour operators schedule whole Ghana trips around AfroFuture Accra.
The 2023 edition ran on 28 and 29 December at the El Wak Sports Stadium, with more than 30,000 visitors expected. Davido, Black Sherif and J Hus headlined, and parent company CMG won US$2 million in financing from Afreximbank, the African Export-Import Bank.
In 2024 the organisers ran Culture Beach Jam instead, a two-day concert at Accra Polo Beach for up to 8,000 people. Graphic Online said the main AfroFuture Accra show would return in 2025 at El Wak Stadium.
The 2025 edition ran on Sunday 28 and Monday 29 December at El Wak Stadium under the theme African Nostalgia. Asake of Nigeria headlined, and Black Enterprise reported on 18 December that Rema and KiDi joined the bill.
The Side Events Around the Festival
In 2025 the festival sat inside a week of side events across Accra. The Battle of Jollof basketball game took place on Saturday 27 December at Bukom Boxing Arena, with the Basketball Africa League.
Fashion Night Out followed on Tuesday 30 December at the Nubuke Museum, according to the Ghana News Agency. The New Year’s Eve party, Positive Vibes Only, ran on Wednesday 31 December at La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.
Graphic Online said the Afro Expo ran from Thursday 18 to Wednesday 31 December, with workshops, book talks and film screenings. Nothing has been announced yet for any of these AfroFuture Accra events in 2026.
What Tour Operators Say About 2026
A TourRadar listing for an eight-day trip leaving Sunday 27 December 2026 shows an opening night on Monday 28 December. It puts AfroFuture Accra on Tuesday 29 December, plus a New Year’s Eve party on Thursday 31 December.
A WeTravel listing sells a nine-night trip from Sunday 27 December 2026 to Tuesday 5 January 2027 for US$3,750. Its page links evening events on Monday 28 December to AfroFuture Accra but names no venue or per-person price.
Tour packages are not festival tickets, and the TourRadar page itself says plans are subject to change. Wait for the organiser before you book flights you cannot refund.
The Likely Venue and How to Get There
El Wak Stadium hosted the 2023 and 2025 editions of AfroFuture Accra, but nothing confirms it for 2026. The organiser has changed venue before, as the 2024 move to Accra Polo Beach shows.
Most visitors arrive at Accra International Airport, and the State Department warns that armed robbers have targeted vehicles leaving it. Arrange a trusted pick-up with your hotel or tour group before you land.
Violent crime, including carjacking and street mugging, happens mostly at night and in remote areas, the State Department says. Avoid walking home after dark, and agree a ride back before you enter a crowded venue.
Tips for US and Foreign Visitors
US citizens need a visa issued before they travel, and airlines may deny boarding without one, the State Department says. Graphic Online reported that Ghana’s e-Visa platform launched on Monday 25 May 2026 with a US$260 fee for applicants outside Africa.
Applicants who send all documents online should get a decision within 48 hours, the foreign minister said at the launch. Apply early anyway, so a delay does not cost you your flight.
Your passport must be valid for six months after arrival and have at least one blank page. Officers may also ask to see a return or onward ticket.
Proof of yellow fever vaccination is required for every traveller aged nine months or older, the State Department says. Carry the original certificate, because you must show it at the port of entry.
The State Department rates Ghana Level 2, exercise increased caution, in an advisory issued on Tuesday 7 July 2026. It advises Americans to reconsider travel to the northern border regions, which are far from Accra.
Medical care is limited outside Accra, and the State Department strongly recommends medical evacuation insurance. The US Embassy in Accra is at 24 Fourth Circular Road, Cantonments, and its emergency line is +233-30-274-1000.
Same-sex activity is illegal in Ghana, with penalties of up to three years in prison. LGBTQ travellers should read the State Department’s advice before they book.
On Tuesday 20 October the market rate was about 11.7 cedis to the US dollar. Ticket and hotel prices for 2026 are not published, so the US$260 visa fee is the only firm cost.
What Is Not Confirmed Yet
The organiser has not announced dates, a venue, a line-up or ticket prices for AfroFuture Accra in 2026. Its website still shows an AfroFuture Ghana 2025 banner on Tuesday 20 October.
Its only 2026 listing is a New York night on Sunday 1 November, called Champion Sound, Turntable Wars. A Kampala show, The Homage: AfroHouse Edition, is also listed without a date.
Black Enterprise said 2025 tickets were sold at afrofuture.com, so expect the same for AfroFuture Accra in 2026. Do not pay resellers or social media accounts before the organiser opens sales.
If the dates move, plans built around Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 December move too. The main show has shifted before, from December 2024 to 2025, so keep flights and hotels flexible.
