KUALA LUMPUR: The theft of 60m of signalling cable caused a disruption on the Padang Jawa Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd line early today.
KTMB said the loss of the 16mm, four-core cable was detected following a report of a disruption on the line from Padang Jawa through Shah Alam to Batu Tiga at 6.20am.
KTMB auxiliary policemen were deployed to the scene upon receiving the report, it said.
"Following the initial report of the disruption, personnel were deployed to the location to carry out a detailed inspection.
"The on-site inspection found that about 60m of 16mm four-core signalling cable had been cut," it said in a statement.
KTMB said repair and reconnection works were actively being carried out by its technical team to ensure train schedules return to normal.
It also gave its assurance that it would continue to tighten security along high-risk routes to curb vandalism and the theft of railway assets.
It called on local communities to be the "eyes and ears" of the authorities to prevent such crimes from becoming more widespread.
