SAVANNA Optical and Eye Care, in partnership with the Ghana Health Service (GHS), has organised a free eye-screening exercise for residents of the Tamale Metropolis in the Northern Region to improve access to essential eye-care services.
The exercise, held last Saturday on the theme “Love Your Eyes”, formed part of activities to commemorate World Sight Day. Vanguard Multimedia Limited, operators of NorthCiti Radio 90.1 FM, Zosimli Radio 102.9 FM and NorthCiti TV, supported the initiative as a media partner.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Savanna Optical and Eye Care, Dr Daniel Gyamfi, said the exercise formed part of the organisation’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme to help more people access eye-care services and maintain good vision.
He said the initiative reflected the organisation’s commitment to promoting eye health and making screening services accessible to the public, particularly people who might otherwise face difficulties accessing them.
“World Sight Day is observed annually to raise awareness of blindness, vision impairment and the importance of protecting eyesight,” he added.
The Chief Executive Officer of Vanguard Multimedia Limited, Mr Samuel Ato Afful, said the collaboration among Savanna Optical and Eye Care, the GHS and the media partner demonstrated the importance of partnerships in advancing public health education and promoting community well-being.
He said the exercise highlighted the importance of regular eye examinations and the early detection of vision problems to help prevent avoidable sight loss.
A retired teacher, Ms Silvia Yakubu, commended the organisers for providing the free service, describing it as an important intervention to improve access to eye care.
She called on more institutions and corporate organisations to partner with the organisers to extend the initiative to a wider population, particularly people who might otherwise struggle to access eye-screening services.
