Three years ago, Lisbon introduced new rules following negotiations with e-scooter sharing companies. The aim was to reduce speeds, limit where the electric two-wheelers could be parked and halve the number of vehicles.
It hasn't worked.
"We have e-scooters going the wrong way down one-way streets, dangerous behaviour, an increase in accidents, and e-scooters abandoned in public places. We pick up more than 1,200 every month," the city's mayor, Carlos Moedas, said in a video on X.
The ban is expected to be put to a vote by the city council on October 21, the news site Observador reports.
