By Breaking Belize News Staff: Nearly one year after being remanded to prison for a double murder in Hattieville, interdicted police officer Orvin Justin Williams, 26, is still awaiting his Preliminary Inquiry (PI) after another adjournment in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.
Williams appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 on Wednesday, October 14, but his PI could not proceed because the Magistrate assigned to his case was on duty in another jurisdiction.
Represented by attorney Gilroy Usher Jr., Williams was further remanded to the Belize Central Prison until October 21, 2026, when his PI is expected to commence in Court #3.
Williams is charged with the September 15, 2025 murders of 57-year-old twins Paula Belisle, his former mother-in-law, and her brother, Paul Esquilliano, who were shot inside a residence on Ysaguirre Boulevard in Hattieville Village.
Police investigations revealed that a gunman arrived at the property in a vehicle, opened fire on the siblings, and fled. Investigators subsequently recovered five expended 9mm shells and obtained surveillance footage that helped them identify a vehicle of interest.
Williams was formally arraigned on October 15, 2025, and has remained on remand since then.
The case has faced repeated delays. In May, Williams received 201 pages of disclosure and 10 DVDs as part of the prosecution’s evidence. His PI was postponed again in August because the assigned Magistrate was unavailable.
Williams remains on interdiction from the Belize Police Department pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.
