In a landmark moment for rail tourism in the State, Keralam is set to receive its first vistadome coach aboard the Madurai–Guruvayur Express. Designed with expansive glass windows and panoramic viewing features, the newly allotted coach promises to redefine rail travel experience, offering passengers breathtaking views of the lush landscape along the scenic route.
Under the temporary revised coach arrangement, Train No. 16327 Madurai–Guruvayur Express operating via Punalur and Kottarakara will have the vistadome coach from October 22 to January 15, 2027, on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
On the return journey, Train No. 16328 Guruvayur–Madurai Express will offer this facility from October 23 to January 16, 2027, on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. The temporary realignment integrates the new coach while maintaining the existing total count of 13 LHB coaches.
Designed with extra-large glass windows and an observation-friendly layout, the vistadome coach aims to cater to tourists, families, and leisure travellers keen on taking in the scenic landscape.
Tourism boost
Welcoming the move, N.K. Premachandran, MP, said the addition of the coach would greatly boost tourism along the Kollam–Sengottai railway line and surrounding destinations, while benefitting passengers travelling between two major south Indian pilgrimage centres of Madurai and Guruvayur.
According to Kodikunnil Suresh, MP, the decision underscores the need to encourage such innovative features on trains to better capitalise on Keralam’s natural beauty and tourism potential. “Such steps will enhance the overall train travel experience in Keralam and position the railways as an effective catalyst for the State’s tourism development,” he said.
