Mumbai, Oct 19: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on Monday, said police had obtained important leads to identify the accused who opened fire at actor Tiger Shroff’s car and would arrest them soon.
“We will also track down their handlers, who hide elsewhere and send instructions from there,” Fadnavis said.
Describing the perpetrators as cowards, the Chief Minister said police took every threat seriously and would ensure that those responsible were brought to justice.
“These are cowards who attempt to strike from hiding. Their attempts will be foiled, and they will not be spared,” he said.
Fadnavis said he had spoken to Shroff and assured the actor that the incident had been taken seriously and that security would be provided to him.
“I told him that we would identify and apprehend the accused and that he had no reason to worry,” Fadnavis said.
Unidentified assailants opened fire at Shroff’s car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening. The actor escaped unhurt, while his driver and another person were injured.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post that went viral. However, police have yet to verify the post’s authenticity.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against three unidentified persons in connection with the firing, officials said on Monday.
The case, initially registered by Juhu police, has been transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch in view of the seriousness of the offence, they said.
An FIR has been registered under Sections 109(1), pertaining to attempt to murder, and 3(5), relating to acts committed in furtherance of a common intention, of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant provisions of the Arms Act, an official said.
With the Crime Branch taking over the investigation, officers are examining all possible angles, including potential links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, the official said.
Identifying and tracking down the three unidentified shooters remains a key challenge for investigators. Further investigation is underway, police added.
