Old Mutual Malawi has pledged K12.2 million towards the Economics Association of Malawi’s (ECAMA) annual conference, underscoring private sector support for policy dialogue at a time of continued economic challenges.

The conference, scheduled for October 29 to 30 in Mangochi, will bring together economists, policymakers, business leaders and other stakeholders to discuss reforms aimed at strengthening Malawi’s economic performance.
Speaking during the cheque presentation in Lilongwe on Tuesday, Old Mutual Investment Group economist Misozi Gondwe said sustainable business growth is closely linked to the development of the communities and economies in which companies operate.
“We are committed to supporting initiatives that contribute to Malawi’s economic progress and create opportunities for inclusive growth,” she said.
Gondwe said Old Mutual continues to partner with organisations whose objectives align with its broader mission of helping people achieve their long-term financial goals while contributing to national development.
Receiving the donation, ECAMA vice-president Hellings Nasoni welcomed the support, saying it would help facilitate discussions on pressing economic issues facing the country.
“We needed resources for us to discuss matters of economic importance and come up with actionable solutions to the challenges that our economy is facing,” he said.
This year’s conference will be held under the theme: “From Policy to Practice: Making Reforms Work”, with participants expected to focus on translating economic reforms into tangible outcomes for growth and development.
