Gangster Anil Pandit, who had claimed responsibility for the firing incident targeting Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff, has been declared a wanted accused in the case, Mumbai Police informed a court on Thursday while seeking custody of four recently arrested suspects.
The Esplanade Magistrate’s Court on Thursday remanded the four accused to police custody until October 26. They have been identified as Kunal, 21, and Sumit, 19, from Haryana’s Sonipat district, and Radha and Babita, both 23, from Uttar Pradesh.
Pandit, 32, an alleged associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang believed to be operating from the US, had claimed responsibility for the October 18 firing incident targeting actor Tiger Shroff in a social media post.
Shroff escaped relatively unhurt after two assailants fired gunshots at his car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening. His driver and a bystander were injured in the incident.
While producing the four accused before the magistrate, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch said the attack was carried out at Pandit’s behest. The four allegedly conspired with three other accused who had been arrested earlier in Kota, Rajasthan.
According to the police, the four accused supplied the firearm used by the shooters. Seeking their custody, the Crime Branch told the court that Kunal and Sumit had collected a pistol and 20 rounds of ammunition from Amritsar on Pandit’s instructions.
Radha and Babita subsequently travelled to Mumbai and handed over the weapon and ammunition to other alleged conspirators.
Defence counsels Ajinkya Mirgul and Satyavrat Joshi opposed the police custody plea, contending that there was no evidence against the four accused and that their arrests were based solely on suspicion.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court remanded the four accused to police custody until October 26.
