Meet Felicity Jones's husband who she met in an unusual way

The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actress, who turned 43 on Saturday, October 17, met her husband Charles in an unusual way

Like Felicity, Charles works in Hollywood

Charles is a director and producer. He works alongside his brother, Thomas, often co-directing projects together. The siblings come from a film family. Their dad, Howard Guard, is also a director, who is behind documentaries like Inside Eton (1995) and A County at War: Life on the Home Front in Hertfordshire (2014).

"We started making films as kids mucking around with video cameras and friends of our younger brother's," Thomas told MovieMaker in 2023, adding that their collaboration "really kicked off when we were at university."

The couple's rare meet cute

In 2014, Felicity was in Los Angeles to promote her film, The Theory of Everything. At the same time, Charles was working in the city directing commercials. As fate would have it, they both got into the same hotel elevator.

"A proper Hollywood love story for two Brits," Felicity told Net-a-Porter in 2018. She continued: "I would keep bumping into him at the Sunset Tower Hotel. I'd go away and come back two weeks later and he'd still be there. Eventually, we got chatting."

Felicity and Charles got engaged in 2017

Three years after they bumped into each other in an elevator, the couple got engaged. And on June 30, 2018, they tied the knot in a small ceremony at Sudeley Castle in Gloucestershire, England. Felicity wore a custom Erdem couture gown as she walked down the aisle. A-listers Tom Hanks and Eddie Redmayne attended the wedding.

Charles directed Felicity in 2023

Charles's second feature film premiered in 2023 and starred his wife. Dead Shot follows a retired Irish paramilitary after he witnessed the fatal shooting of his wife. Felicity starred as Catherine, an IRA courier during the 1970s.

The couple are parents to two kids

Felicity and Charles welcomed their first child, a son in April 2020, and their daughter in 2022. Since becoming parents, the couple have kept their children's names private, but Felicity has given some insight into her parenting style.

"I have two very young children who like to keep me very firmly indoors. So when I have the opportunity, I do like to go out, but a lot of the time, I’m in bed by 9 o’clock so I can be up at, like, 4:30 A.M. the next day," she told People in 2024. A year later, Felicity opened up about what she and Charles focus on as parents, saying: "I think about bringing up our children all the time, and the thought is: we can’t mess it up, we have to do everything perfectly, otherwise they're going to hate us for the rest of our lives. Safeguarding the anarchy and innocence of childhood is so hard to do now."
