Sifuna made the accusations on Saturday, October 17, during a burial ceremony in Webuye, Bungoma County, where he addressed mourners and turned his attention to the political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna Takes Aim at Ruto Over Slogans
The Nairobi senator alleged that after he announced the launch of The Equitable Party (TEP), whose Swahili equivalent is "Usawa," President Ruto began publicly using the phrase "Usawa ni Sawa." Sifuna said the party's official campaign slogan is "Tusawazishe," and accused the President of riding on his creativity while dismissing the opposition's intelligence.
"Ruto is saying we don't have brains, but every day he is waiting for Sifuna to say or do something for him to copy. He heard I have launched a party called The Equitable Party (TEP), which in Swahili means Usawa. He started singing in public that Usawa ni Sawa. Our slogan is Tusawazishe, but he is the one now saying Usawa ni Sawa. He says we don't have brains, but he is copying everything we are doing," Sifuna said.
He further alleged that President Ruto had instructed contractors working on affordable housing units to install lifts following concerns Sifuna himself had raised publicly on the matter, suggesting the directive was not born of independent thought.
"Mudavadi thinks we are lazy like him. We will traverse every part of this country to market our party. We will do 10 rallies in a day until Linda Mwananchi Movement is known in every house," said the Nairobi senator.
Sifuna Fires Back at Mudavadi
Sifuna also directed sharp criticism at Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who reportedly argued that a party formed only ten months before a general election cannot realistically win the presidency.
The TEP party leader dismissed the assertion, drawing a parallel with human gestation to argue that time alone does not determine the outcome of a political contest. He insisted that TEP, which has since rebranded as Linda Mwananchi Movement, is capable of winning the 2027 election through aggressive grassroots mobilisation.
"Mudavadi thinks we are lazy like him. We will traverse every part of this country to market our party. We will do 10 rallies in a day until Linda Mwananchi Movement is known in every house," Sifuna said.
He vowed that his team would conduct exhaustive campaigns across all regions of the country to build the party's national profile ahead of the next election cycle.
