BROOKFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – Warren JFK put an emphatic exclamation point on the regular season Thursday night, delivering a strong performance in a 66-0 shutout victory over Cleveland JFK to secure their sixth win of the year (6-4).
With their ledger officially complete, the Eagles must now play the waiting game this weekend, keeping a close eye on regional results to see if they’ll be competing into week eleven.
A lightning-fast defensive takeaway sparked an explosive start as Warren JFK asserted its dominance just seconds after the opening kickoff.
While Cleveland JFK narrowly avoided early disaster by recovering their own fumbled return, the Fighting Eagles’ luck quickly ran out on their opening drive.
Warren JFK defensive standout Gio Valentino anticipated a pass, stepping in front of the ball for an interception; rumbling 43-yards back into the end zone to open the scoring just 61 seconds into the contest. Seeking to maximize the early momentum, Nick Branca then powered his way up the middle for a hard-fought two-point conversion, putting Warren JFK ahead 8-0 in the blink of an eye.
The Eagles’ relentless onslaught continued the very first time their offense took the field.
Branca showcased his explosiveness ripping off a 20-yard run to slice through the defense and set up first-and-goal at the 1-yard line. Christian Dixie capitalized immediately on the next play, gliding untouched into the end zone from a yard out. Branca then capped off the lightning-quick offensive sequence by rumbling in for his second two-point conversion of the night, rapidly extending the Warren JFK lead to a commanding 16-0 before the opponent could find their footing.
Just two plays later, Dixie proved to be a dual-threat nightmare for Cleveland JFK, stepping into the passing lane for yet another Fighting Eagles interception. Dixie intercepted the pass and sprinted 20 yards back to pay dirt, blowing the game wide open and securing a staggering 24-0 cushion with a mere 4 minutes and 4 seconds ticked off the first-quarter clock.
Following a quick Cleveland JFK punt, the home team's aerial attack joined the party. Quarterback Al Howard localized his target and found Dixie on a chunk play through the air to push deep into enemy territory. A subsequent penalty was assessed on Cleveland JFK.
On the very next play, Branca ran with authority, punishing defenders as he crossed the goal line to extend the lead to a breathtaking 31-0 midway through just the first quarter.
With 4:19 still remaining in the opening quarter, Warren JFK refused to lift its foot from the gas pedal.
Quarterback Al Howard ignited the drive himself, keeping the ball on a 25-yard QB keeper that sliced through the defense and pushed the Eagles directly into the red zone.
On the very next snap, Branca showcased a spectacular combination of speed and power on an 18-yard burst to cross the goal line yet again.
The touchdown capped an astonishing first-quarter clinic, widening the gap to a margin before the first period even drew to a close.
The first-quarter fireworks officially culminated on the very next possession.
After another massive, field-flipping run by Branca put the Eagles in striking distance, the coaching staff dipped into their playbook on the second play of the drive. Valentino took a handoff on a perfectly executed misdirection play, freezing the defense before racing 14 yards untouched into the end zone. The touchdown capped off a historic, jaw-dropping opening period, sending Warren JFK into the huddle with a monumental 45-0 advantage.
Any hopes of a second-quarter respite for the visitors were quickly dashed as the opening minutes of the next frame brought more of the same relentless execution.
Showing off the depth of the Eagles' roster, Jacoby Langston got in on the action on the ensuing drive. Langston found a seam and dashed into the end zone from 14 yards away, extending the ever-widening Warren JFK advantage to a 52-0 as the hometown squad continued to firing on all cylinders.
The first-half officially came to a close with one final show of force before the intermission.
Aidan Moore put the exclamation point on the multi-faceted offensive attack, churning through defenders on a bruising 13-yard run into the end zone. Moore’s hard-fought score made him the fifth different Warren JFK player to cross the goal line on the night, cementing a massive 59-0 advantage as both teams headed into the locker rooms.
With a continuous running clock in effect for the second half, the Eagles comfortably controlled the tempo while continuing to stifle any response from the visitors.
The spectacular night of complementary football officially reached its peak on the final play of the third quarter.
Moore found open space once again, breaking loose for a 33-yard touchdown sprint. The run marked Moore's second score of the evening, successfully extending the home team's lead to 66 points and placing a definitive exclamation point on a masterful night.
